On the Field

Module #5 focuses on First Aid, Wounds, and Blood Borne Pathogens. It is essential that all athletic trainers (and athletic training students) have proper training in wound care, universal precautions, and basic first aid. This module gives us a good starting point for protecting ourselves and our patients by understanding blood borne pathogens and universal precautions. This module will also give some insight into why we use ice, compression, and elevation following acute injury and why understanding some basics of inflammation and healing can influence how we care for injuries and illnesses.
