Athletic Training Certification

This module provides the learner with an opportunity to better understand the educational requirements associated with an athletic training program. In addition, students will have the opportunity to learn about the requirements for certification as an athletic trainer. In addition Chapter 4 provides a good overview of educational resources for the AT student. This chapter may be beneficial no matter you choice of major.

NOTE: I will draw some material for the first celebration of knowledge from this module but not a great deal. Students should complete the reading and web activities for this assignment. Your primary focus for exam 3! should be on the other information from our first unit.

Required Reading:

Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 of the AT Primer textbook

Visit the BOC website section on exam eligibility to better understand the requirements for certification.

Read Recommendation #2 in the AT Future Directions Document

Visit the UW AT Program web page and review program highlights, requirements, program outcomes, look at the AT by the Numbers handout, and enjoy the program video.

Review the AT Program Requirements in the UW-Madison undergraduate catalog.

Learning Objectives

OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this module the students will be able to:

Explain how to obtain information on educational programs in athletic training

Identify the organizations that work cooperatively to establish, maintain, and promote appropriate standards of quality for AT educational programs

Describe the content requirements in an AT program

Discuss the clinical component of an AT program

Explain the guidelines for supervision during AT education

Identify potential ethical issues that commonly face AT students

Identify common study strategies for AT sudents

Upon completion of the first three modules and the first two weeks of class you should have a good understanding of what athletic trainers do (domains) where athletic trainers work (job settings), and what are the requirements to become an AT.

Homework
Online Module 3:

Please write a Public Service Announcement or Elevator Speech that promotes the profession of athletic training. Be creative! Record your assignment and upload the recording and script into the dropbox folder. It should be no more than 1 minute!.This is easily done with a smartphone.
