Memory Cloth — Art School
We lived in Oakland when Jared was at Berkeley. Back then they had free art classes at night at the high school. I took ceramics. You paid 10 cents a pound for clay. I loved it.
After several months I realized I’d run out of Design Ideas and needed a real art school. There was one around the corner – California College of Arts and crafts (now called California College of the Arts.) I decided to go and ask about taking classes. I dressed up in my best dress, the bright red mini I’d worn at my sister’s wedding rehearsal dinner.
I walked up the driveway between the cypress and the palm tree to the old Victorian house. I only talked to the secretary that time, but later they accepted me.
