Understanding the dangers of hyperthermia, hypothermia, and other environmental issues is of the utmost importance to the athletic trainer. Once during my career someone asked me why athletic trainers often hand out water or ice during games; they thought it was beneath my level of education. Well I always say the same thing; keeping people alive should not be beneath anyone. That is a fact. Athletes die every year from heat related illnesses that are most often preventable. Knowing the signs and symptoms of various heat related problems is a requirement for any athletic trainer. Having a prevention and response plan for a heat emergency is critical. In this part of the country we can't just worry about heat. Cold and lightning are of equal importance.

A portion of the Environmental Concerns unit is intended to be done on-line with no face to face class period on 10/16. Please go through the information below and complete the unit assignment.
