Injuries to the spine and generalized back pain are common place among those who are physically active. Most spinal injuries are minor and can resolve with basic treatment and therapy however spine injuries also have the potential to be debilitating and, in the worst case scenario, many be catastrophic. This unit will expose the student to common injuries of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. We will discuss potential catastrophic injury and reinforce the important role of the AT in dealing with these injuries.
Required Reading:
Chapter 8 in the AT Primer textbook. Read intro paragraphs, the anatomy pages 150-152 and the section on spine injuries (pages 164-170). Pay close attention to the shaded boxes and injury highlights throughout the chapter
