This piece started when I saw the pictureof Emanuael and Avram Rosenthal in 1944, pictured in a NYTimes photo fromSteve Spielberg's "Survivors of the Holocaust." It resonated inmy heart with a picture of my baby brother Billy and me, probably takenin 1945. All of us war children had that same look Back Then. Only Billyand I are in Portage, Wisconsin. We are not wearing stars.

The juxtaposition led me to create the sculpture which is pictured here.

(After I make my sculptures, a few are presented in the Peltz Gallery, 1119E. Knapp Street, Milwaukee. Others go to homes of friends. Most often, theygo into boxes in my basement or shelves in my studio. Why do I do this?I sometimes ask myself. Don't ask: just make, comes the answer from theclay.)
