For more suggestions of diverse books broken down by genre and age group, as well as a few themes (some correlated with the Common Core), we keep book lists on our Pinterest page: http://www.pinterest.com/leeandlow/
For example, if you scroll down a bit, you'll see our diverse genre fiction lists--diverse YA science fiction, diverse YA fantasy, etc. These include racial, ethnic, and LGBT diversity.
I'm afraid I haven't been able to participate in the discussion of Eric Gansworth's book as I'd hoped to--having had two major things happen in my personal life that took up a great deal of my time, I didn't have the time to read it--but I plan to read it soon, and regret I wasn't able to discuss it more this week. However, come this October, if you're in the New York City area, you can join Eric Gansworth, Joseph Bruchac, Cheryl Klein of Scholastic (Eric's editor) and me (Joe's editor) for a Children's Literature Salon hosted by Betsy Bird at the New York Public Library. Please save the date and join us for more discussion of Eric and Joe's books in the fall, as well as discussion of the editorial process.
