I enjoyed all the Beatles references in the novel being a huge fan myself. I was never terribly impressed with Wings or any post-Beatles McCartney. Neither he nor Lennon were able to match what they did in the Beatles. Even though they were composing individually toward the end of the group, I think they still needed each other for the inspiration and rivalry. George is the only one who surpassed in a solo career. The Beatles had a good time perpetuating the "Paul is Dead" conspiracy. One example is "Glass Onion" on the White Album and, of course, the Abbey Road cover. By the way, Lennon is saying "cranberry sauce" at the end of "Strawberry Fields Forever," not "I buried Paul."

Music is an ever-present theme in Eric Gansworth's If I Ever Get Out of Here. He put together a discography: http://www.ericgansworth.com/ifievergetmusic

It is a slide show, too. Delightful.
