Ditto,
I've been quiet because of school visits but finally sat down to read How I Became a Ghost. It was such a quick read and I was recommending it to the librarian at the elementary school I visited today. As an African American I sometimes suffer from "post traumatic" distress syndrome as it relates to any retelling of periods of injustice. Especially during February. Because I already know "it ends badly" for the people involved. But I loved how the voice of the character drew me in and held me captive. I had a deadline but kept saying - "okay, one more chapter and I'll stop and get back to my manuscript". And that process continued unabated until I found I had finished the book.
Bravo. I bought a Kindle version (for timing and in the hopes the royalties will be a bit higher for Mr. Tingle) and will be contacting area librarians to put it on the shelf. KC Library didn't show it in its inventory but we'll find a way to correct that.
I do love the idea of buying a book as a political act. More than that, I love the idea of reading a book that lingers and lets me peek in on a difficult period of time but feel better for having born witness to the event… Look forward to reading more.………Christine Author, Regional Chair, MIT Educational Council
