Helen and Crystal have both hit on something that I think makes "How I Became a Ghost" so distinctive. Two things, actually.
1) The humor that Tim Tingle manages to bring into a story that is so tragic.
2) Jumper, the talking dog. From the moment he is introduced, you just accept that Isaac's dog talks. There is no explanation and none is needed. Once you accept that, you'll be ready to accept a whole lot of other-worldly things that happen in the book.
There is a different reality in the book than what I am used to. And it's one I liked spending time in.

I love this book.
