And don't forget Instagram. A lot of teens (and preteens) are on Instagram instead of Twitter. I've made scenes from recently published books using LEGO minifigures, photographed them, and posted them to Instagram. If any of you are on Instagram and go to my feed, _at_lynmillerlachmann, you will see among my recent posts LEGO scenes with Jill Santopolo's SPARKLE SPA and Trent Reedy's DIVIDED WE FALL. I've also done several using my own novel ROGUE, and one with the "DIrty War House" referenced in GRINGOLANDIA.

I know a lot of authors use Twitter successfully but I wasn't one of them. When I told my daughter of my plight last summer, she told me to go on Instagram to reach teens directly, and it really has worked. I'm posting a graphic novel there and just took part in a collaborative storytelling exercise with a 13-year-old boy on Instagram.

And, by the way, my followers are 40% under 18, and nearly all of those teenagers are boys. So if you want to know how to reach and engage boys, here's one way to do it.

I have samples on our Twitter feed to show them, and the brevity seems to make it fun. You could then take a photo of the student with the book, put everything on a large sheet of construction paper, and start posting them around the school. Here's a link to our Twitter feed with some examples of tweeted reviews: https://twitter.com/SEMSLibrary.
