Ragina,

Since you're at a high school, how about encouraging Tweet-like trailers? When a student raves about a book he or she is returning, I ask them to write a 140 character review. I have samples on our Twitter feed to show them, and the brevity seems to make it fun. You could then take a photo of the student with the book, put everything on a large sheet of construction paper, and start posting them around the school. Here's a link to our Twitter feed with some examples of tweeted reviews: https://twitter.com/SEMSLibrary.

Here's a simple idea that worked for me in a public library. I bet it would adapt to a school. I contacted a bunch of community leaders and familiar names around town and asked each person to tell me about a book that influenced them in some way. Typed up their responses, mounted them on posterboard, added a photo of the person, and hung them around the library. We did a little press release, and I was amazed at how many people came in to the library to walk around and look at the posters.

Even in a low socio-economic school I'm willing to bet that someone has a phone that takes pictures. Snap a pic of each participating student holding up a book he/she enjoyed and get a short quote for a teaser. You can upload the pictures to an online photo printing site such as Snapfish or Shutterfly and either have prints mailed to you or else pick them up at a Walgreens or Meijer or Walmart, etc. Type your zip code into the site to find a nearby outlet.

It's quick and cheap, and I'll bet the kids will enjoy seeing the pictures.Have fun! Paula

I want to get a few students to create "Book Trailers" so to speak (non-electronic) to post around the school to inspire other students to read the books we have in our new library. Would anyone happen to have any creative ideas you would be happy to share?
