Monica's note about the Africana Awards reminded me that no one has mentioned the Tomas Rivera Mexican American Children's Book Award
<http://riverabookaward.org/>. Since 1996, this award has been presented annually "to honor authors and illustrators who create literature that depicts the Mexican American experience." (Full disclosure: my book, JOSE! BORN TO DANCE, illus. by Raul Colon, won the award in 2006, which was especially thrilling because I am not Mexican American or even Latino.) Regards, Susanna
