Tricia, Thanks so much for sharing this anecdote!

I think it speaks to the power of the human experience that speaks to us through literature. While each family's origins, reasons for traveling, & conditions were so different, author Bich Minh Nguyen identified with the Ingalls family. It's a gentle reminder to me that as a librarian I need to find quality books that depict a variety of personal experiences, but that there really is no telling when we will connect with a particular book.

My own daughter is growing up in Hawaii, with a Hawaiian, Filipino, Chinese, Puerto Rican, Spanish & "Haole" as we say in Hawaii for caucasian background, but she's engrossed in *Precious **Bones* by Mika Ashley-Hollinger set in a Florida swamp circa 1950s. I never would have guessed this story, setting, or the main character, Bones, would capture her attention.

Tricia & Debbie, Little House isn't circulating in my library, but your post has prompted me to pair it with other texts and invite the students to make connections. I'm wondering if my military kids, who travel to a new duty station every three years, might also connect with Laura & her family in some way. Thanks for sharing and continuing to ask these questions! Michelle Colte
