Bevin, I am a female, black YA author from Illinois. I see your school is in Rockville Md. I'm going to be in the vicinity on April 29 (actually at the Connecticut Library Association meeting to talk on Empowering the Voice of the Black Male in Children's and Teen Lit. I know Connecticut is not really near DC but much closer than I am now). I am in the process of making travel arrangements now, and I could extend things an additional day for a meeting at your school. While I mostly write for 7th grade and up, if you would like me to stop by let me know ASAP and we can see about making arrangements. This sounds wonderful! Our library would love to know which authors of color are going to be in our geographic area for conferences, book fairs, etc. in order to schedule school visits. I'm happy to help in any way.

Being proactive and compiling a list. When I appeared on an ALA panel in Chicago a few years back we did that and it wasn't very hard. It increased traffic for those authors.
I'm even happy to set up a website or blog using my server to help facilitate the list of who will be at conferences. If some of the authors and illustrators don't have funds for booths or are not funded by publishers, we could also have a "meet me at" location on the list as well.
And I would invite authors and illustrators of color to send me their contact information for future.
Count me in!……..Christine

Lucine and others, I like the idea of having a central repository noting when and where authors would be appearing/signing. I have a conference in March and two in April that I would love to put in, but I admit I don't feel comfortable just emailing that off to the world and bloggers who probably get hundreds of such emails. Is there a way to put together some kind of shared worksheet where these things could be noted? I am not as computer literate as I wish and couldn't put it together myself, but I would be happy to assist someone in creating and managing such a list.
