That's a gracious offer, Christine; one authors/teachers/librarians and others will surely appreciate.

I was hoping to identify a high-profile venue to host such an online convention listing for the wide exposure it could provide. As Stacy mentioned, entities such as CBC (not to mention indie publishers, bookselling associations and even the industry media outlets) have their own vested interests/clients. As such they would likely view providing a free service to authors they don't represent/service as outside their purview. I'd love to be proven wrong.
      Â
One newish free resource is the events listings page on Authors.com, but I'm not familiar with its reach or viability.

I was just talking to my husband about this last night. Being proactive and compiling a list. When I appeared on an ALA panel in Chicago a few years back we did that and it wasn't very hard. It increased traffic for those authors.

I'm even happy to set up a website or blog using my server to help facilitate the list of who will be at conferences. If some of the authors and illustrators don't have funds for booths or are not funded by publishers, we could also have a "meet me at" location on the list as well.

And I would invite authors and illustrators of color to send me their contact information for future.

      Count me in!……..Christine

Lucine and others, I like the idea of having a central repository noting when and where authors would be appearing/signing. I have a conference in March and two in April that I would love to put in, but I admit I don't feel comfortable just emailing that off to the world and bloggers who probably get hundreds of such emails. Is there a way to put together some kind of shared worksheet where these things could be noted? I am not as computer literate as I wish and couldn't put it together myself, but I would be happy to assist someone in creating and managing such a list.

Thanks, Lyn, for this thoughtful post.
            Â
While we usually know about the big names who are signing at booths at various conferences, I'd like to suggest that (if they don't already do so prior to conferences) ccbc-net subscribing publishers, authors and bloggers put together an "alternative" list of author signings going on at the publisher booths both large and small and make these schedules available to the bloggers mentioned by Kelly Lyons, myself and others in this online discussion.
          Â
While this doesn't speak to the issue of diversity authors who might not be invited to sign at publisher booths, nor to those for whom diversity might not be a priority, the concept might at least alert those who follow these bloggers as to where they can find and support material that might be brought out of the margins and into the mainstream.
