I am fortunate in that I write longer books and for publishers who have alw ays been generous in giving me as much space as I need for notes. And, yes, the 32 page format is unyielding -- there is simply no way to add another page. But, that said, I would suspect that there is generally enough white space on a copyright page to at least list attributions for quotations and other needed source citations. That will be in smaller type and surely esca pe the eyes of young readers. But it would also allow a reviewer, librarian , or parent to have the assurance that there is a handy and easily traced t rail behind any quoted or cited material. There may well not be space for c omplete backmatter, but there surely can be room for needed references -- j ust as we find space to list permission and copyright information for image s, song lyrics, poems, or longer extracts.
