You are absolutely correct -- major sites don't leave but pages do; sometimes though the pages are difficult to find so referencing a page on YOUR site specifically for links for a particular book would be the absolute best: control, up-to-date information, and it is not subject to the whim of some developer for a publisher who doesn't understand the significance of the page. But in any case an accurate and appropriate citation is needed -- models correct citation form to readers and provides information so all know who is responsible for the page.
