And a peeve of mine--the purpose of Dewey is not to classify just nonfiction, but all material. If libraries applied it evenly, all books would have dewey numbers, including fiction...now how the local library chooses to apply that...and how teachers and librarians explain it to students...I face a similar struggle with getting college students to understand that just because a journal is scholarly/academic, it doesn't mean that every thing published in it is the right source for their paper (news briefs, books reviews, etc.)
