I find Maia's eloquence powerful and deeply felt. I do not doubt that libra rians are in the center of a cultural storm -- as Celeste also pointed out. But Maia's passion also confirms my earlier point -- what we as adults jud ge as "good" reading also shapes how we define "popular" reading. You can't on the one hand say Google is the New Nonfiction -- as if kids did not rea d NF books, and, at the same time, discount active nonfiction book reading because you don't like the subject. That is a double bind imposed by us -- not a service to them.
