"So what are some of your recently published non-fiction favorites?"
Here's a few in my stack of favorites:
Almost Astronauts: 13 women who dared to dream by Tanya Lee Stone
Ballet for Martha: making Appalachian Spring by Jan Greenberg and Sandra Jo rdan (and illustrated by one of my favorites: Brian Floca)
Candy Bomber: the story of the Berlin airlift's "Chocolate Pilot," by Micha el O. Tunnell
The Cowgirl Way: hats off to America's women of the West, by Holly George-W arren
Letters to a Soldier by David Falvey
Panda Kindergarten by Joanne Ryder
Peter Kent's City Across Time
Project Seahorse by Pamela S. Turner
Saving the Baghdad Zoo: a true story of hope and heroes by Kelly Halls
Up We Grow: a year in the life of a small, local farm by Deborah Hodge
And the (my) envelope goes to Joyce Sidman's Dark Emperor & other poems of the night for most beautifully illustrated cover.
I also like the following new entries in these series:
Inside Series (Sterling) - for older readers
Barnyard Buddies by Patricia Stockland (it's never too early for nonfiction !)
I have the following on order and can't wait to read:
Dave the Potter: artist, poet, slave by Laban Carrick Hill
Good, the Bad, and the Barbie by Tanya Lee Stone
Henry Knox: bookseller, soldier, patriot by Anita Silvey (I'll read anythin g by this author)
Wild Waters Photo Journal by Michael Patrick O'Neill
