We've worked really hard at our high school to incorporate more contemporar y novels and nonfiction into the curriculum and to increase opportunities f or students to choose their own books. We also do regular nonfiction, or c ombined fiction and nonfiction book talks for students in history, health, and English classes (over 70 last year,) and students are encouraged to cho ose one of the books we book talk, or any other book in the library that ap peals to them and meets the conditions of the teacher's assignment. This h as given me the opportunity to widen our collection development to include lots of adult and YA memoirs, biography and high interest nonfiction that w ill appeal to teens. Below are two lists: the first is a list of student f avorites over the last few years, and the second is a list of nonfiction ad ded to the curriculum.
