Since several questions (both on the list and off it) have come up about the appropriateness of a recent promotional post, I want to take a moment to affirm that CCBC-Net is not a list for marketing or promotional messages.
Because CCBC-Net is not a list that requires messages be pre-approved before posting, we do rely on everyone in the CCBC-Net community to self-monitor what they post with regard to this and other policies. There will be mistakes and missteps occasionally but we trust they are as a general rule simply that--missteps, and a not a willful misuse of the list or disregard for our policies.
However, that doesn't mean an occasional reminder of those policies won't be helpful. So you'll find them below.
CCBC-NET PROTOCOLS AND POLICIES:
1) Sign all messages.
2) If you are responding to a prior post, please quote relevant parts of that post but do not include the entire prior message.
3) Refrain from posting off-topic messages in the middle of a discussion. Use the open announcement period at the start of each month for this purpose.
4) When responding to an announcement or question posted during the open announcement period, please reply only to the person who made the original post and not to the CCBC-Net list as a whole.
5) CCBC-Net should never be used as a marketing outlet for books or other materials. (Announcements about upcoming conferences or other children's/young adult literature events are welcome during the open announcement period.)
6) We welcome constructive disagreement and criticism in all of our discussions; however, personal insults and attacks are unwelcome and inappropriate.
7) Please do not assign posting a message to CCBC-Net as a class assignment for your college/university students. Rather than posting to meet a requirement, encourage students engaged by the discussion topic to participate.
8) Make certain that everything you post is legal and ethical, or you risk your participation in CCBC-NET. Ultimately the University of Wisconsin - Madison is legally responsible for the content of all posts and will take appropriate steps to make certain that the operation of this listserv is legal. Please refer to the Guidelines for Appropriate Use of University of Wisconsin-Madison Information Technology Resources:
