I flew through these books like there was a fire lit under my seat. One of the great things about fantasy IS the fact that new words can be created and new dimensions explored. What child cannot relate to that? Every middle school student that i have ever known (and it's not been very long since I was one myself) has a certain language/lingo/dialogue to go with the world surrounding them. I have been giving these books away as gifts recently to many of my friends (all ages - 12 to 25). The 12 year old girl was enchanted with Lyra and couldn't wait to get her hands on the next one. Usually this girl isn't an avid reader, but I think something in Lyra's mischievious nature appealed to her because it really strikes a chord with who she is herself. Everyone I have given these books to has raved about them.
