Whether or not you've been a subscriber to the journal "Appraisal: Science Books for Young People," please consider visiting the
"Appraisal" web site to find out about the new format for this fine source of information about science literature for children and teenagers www.appraisal.neu.edu .
I just received the welcome news that this quarterly journal is now being published online. Subscribers will also receive an annual CD-ROM edition of "Appraisal" with all four issues full-text and indexed. Personal subscriptions as well as institutional subscriptions are available. Accommodations will be made for subscribers without computer access.
I've valued and used "Appraisal" for a long time. Why? Because each book reviewed in it is reviewed twice. One of the reviews is written by a subject specialist and the other by a specialist in book evaluation. A valuable article about some aspect of science or science writing opens each issue. The longtime editor of "Appraisal" is Diane Holzheimer. E-mail messages concerning "Appraisal" can be sent to: appraisal at lynx.dac.neu.edu
This is a completely unpaid, unsolicited endorsement. Really. We appreciate knowing when colleagues create something particularly useful, and then we want others to get the news, too. - Ginny
