Children's Literature Collections Featured at ALA
"From Goody Two Shoes to Harry Potter: Collections of Historical Children's Literature" will be a program American Library Association's annual conference in San Francisco on Sunday, June 17.
Take a slide-illustrated tour through time, from the 17th through the 21st century, and through space, from Connecticut to California, from Florida to Minnesota, and several places in between, as the Curators of six major collections of children's literature offer 15-minute presentations on the highlights of their collections.
The program is scheduled to be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Garden Room of the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Attendees should check the conference program to verify this location.
Speakers include:
Rita J. Smith, Curator, The Baldwin Library of Historical Children's Literature, University of Florida.
Angelica Carpenter, Curator, The Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children's Literature, California State University, Fresno.
Andrea Immel, Curator, The Cotsen Children's Library at Princeton University.
Karen Nelson Hoyle, Curator, The Children's Literature Research Collections, University of Minnesota.
Dee Jones, Curator, The deGrummond Children's Literature Collection, University of Southern Mississippi.
Terry Goldich, Curator, The Northeast Children's Literature Collection, University of Connecticut.
The speakers will distribute promotional materials from their collections. This program is sponsored by the National Planning of Special Collections Committee, part of the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association. The Committee plans a companion program for the American Library Association's 2003 conference, to be held in Toronto. The Toronto program will feature international collections of children's literature.
