bigger paradise quiltParadise (from "The Way")

Because they knew I was finishing these abandoned quilts, my friends gave me sewn patchwork blocks and quilt tops they had found. Paradise is the first in a series of seven that use the same three quilt tops as a frame for a central image.

The center in Paradise is a beaded piece that I started on a trip to Jamaica. My image of a sunny beach vacation was turned into gray and rain from Hurricane Mitch. My then, 11 year old daughter Riah Werner added the sun and rainbow. A couple days later there really was a fabulous rainbow. I've marked each corner of the fabric patchworks with a beaded tassel in honor of the original creators' hand sewing. My 9 year old daughter, Kaylee, added some of them. The back sides are my own patchworks from fabrics on hand.

I see Paradise, Gateway and Helping Hand hanging as a triptych. Together I call them The Way because they represent my spiritual journey.
