Title: "Spirit Stands Still"

Statement: The title for "Spirit Stands Still" comes from a quote by Minor White: "No matter how slow the film, spirit always stands still long enough for the photographer It has chosen." When we were working on the piece things were happening in our lives that required us to be patient. We thought of the piece as a kind of prayer wheel with ceramic beads that can be spun.

When I saw Egyptian amulets, I wanted to make a piece called "Amulet." I like the idea that a charm can be worn or carried for protection from evil or to bring good luck. I inscribed the beads with my own symbols. The snake heads symbolize rebirth and renewal.
