Here are some of my favorite teen books of 2014, as I think back and in no particular order.

Scar Boys by Len Vlahos - in contention for Morris award, but the list is very strong. Wonderful coming of age book with powerful characters and themes.

I'll Give you the Sun by Jandy Nelson - complex and riveting characters and situations; teens in my library are loving it! Jandy Nelson is quickly becoming a favorite author!

100 Sideways Miles by Andrew Smith - fresh and original, this coming of age story is full of heart and wisdom, fully formed and engaging characters, and laugh out loud humor.

The Accidental Highwayman by Ben Tripp - This one is a "rollicking ride" filled with adventure, magic, and great good fun!

Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers - the conclusion of the His Fair Assassin trilogy does not disappoint! Who wouldn't fall in love with these female assassins trained by nuns! I loved this entire series.

We were Liars by E. Lockhart - psychological drama at its best with this unreliable, damaged narrator.

The Impossible Knife of Memory by Laurie Halse Anderson - heartbreaking reality of a daughter "caring" for a father with post-traumatic stress disorder.

As has been our tradition on CCBC-Net, this last month of the year we invite you to share your favorite books of 2014. What has stood out to you this year? What are you buying as gifts for the children and teens in your life? What do you think will win the ALA awards that will be announced on February 2? Let us know!
