Recently, I heard my colleague, Merri Lindgren, book talk El Deafo. One of the aspects of El Deafo to which she draws attention is how the GN format works to well to convey meanings and feelings. The garbled letters in the speech bubbles help us begin to understand Cece Bell's confusion and frustration. The super hero, El Deafo, framed in a separate space, showing how super hero's can be separated from others and lonely, how Cece feels at times. There are many more examples.
