I am a huge fan of boxers and saints and like Emily and Lisa, enjoyed how Gene used the graphic novel format to teach readers about the Boxer Rebellion. I think the book does a wonderful job when it comes to serving as a bridge for kids and adults in understanding other cultures.
It inspired me to write a blog post for the ALSC blog about how librarians could revitalize their collections by paring graphic novels (both those with a historical theme and not) with non-fiction works. If anyone's interested; http://www.alsc.ala.org/blog/2014/03/your-depa= rtments-bffs-graphic-novels-non-fiction/
