Dear colleagues, New guidelines have been announced for the 2015 PEN/Phyllis Naylor Working Writer Fellowship for authors of children's and young adult fiction. The changes are intended to make it easier for writers to apply for the $5,000 work-in-progress grant. In addition, the application period has been extended until December 19.

Previously, candidates had to be nominated by an editor or fellow writer. Under the new guidelines, authors can apply themselves and need only have published one novel, not two. The grant is awarded annually to a writer in financial need who has published at least one warmly-received novel for children or young adults. Application guidelines are posted on the PEN website at http://www.pen.org/content/penphyllis-naylor-working-writer-fellowship-5000. For more information please emailawards_at_pen.org.

The PEN Literary Awards are the most comprehensive in the United States. Each year, with the help of its partners and supporters, PEN confers more than $150,000 to writers in the fields of fiction, science writing, essays, sports writing, biography, children’s literature, translation, drama, or poetry.
