Have you sent in your RSVP for the First Annual CCBC Bowl yet? If not, now is the time! And, if you have, read on. You'll find some important details.
*
**Friday Nov 7, 7:00-10:00pm, at Hotel Red, 1501 Monroe Street* RSVP by 5:00pm Monday, Nov 3, to horning_at_education.wisc.edu

We've had great response from Friends who want to attend this, and everyone is bringing at least one potential new Friend. We have limited space for this event but there is still a little bit of room left, if you want to sign up by Monday. You can RSVP to horning_at_education.wisc.edu

In conjunction with the Trivia Bowl, we will have a *mini silent auction* of some very special items, including:

  * A historic poster from the /And Peace Attend Thee/ art exhibit, with
an illustration from /Mr. Rabbit and the Lovely Present/, signed by
    Maurice Sendak and Charlotte Zolotow

  * Make Way for Ducklings, with a book plate signed by Robert McCloskey

  * Signed posters and an original illustration by Laura Dronzek

Proceeds from the auction will go into the Friends of the CCBC's Legacy Fund.

Several people have had questions about the CCBC Bowl, so we will answer them here, in case you've been wondering, too.

*1) Do I have to assemble a whole team before I come? * No, teams will be organized by table, so you can join a group once you arrive, simply by joining a table where people are already sitting. There is quite a range of questions, so it would behoove you to sit with people who are different from you. For example, if you know a lot about current children's books, you might want to sit with people who know a lot about books published prior to 2000.

*2) Can I come without a friend who is not yet a member? * The purpose of the event is to FRIENDraise, but if your friends are either already members, or live too far away to attend an evening event, or will be out of town, or wouldn't be interested in a children's literature event, we'll allow you to come by yourself but we'll encourage you to give a gift membership to a friend from afar.

*3) Can I renew my Friends membership at the door?* Of course! The Friends will have a membership table set up for renewals, and for new memberships.
*
**4) What form of payment can I use for membership and the auction?* The Friends prefer checks, but if you want to use a credit card, they'll have a laptop available for payment via credit card using Paypal. There is also an ATM located right outside the front door at Hotel Red.

*5) What will the event itself be like?* It will be held in a large room on the first floor of Hotel Red, with ten tables that seat eight people. As you arrive, you can mix and mingle with members of the Friends for a brief time, or look at and/or bid on silent auction items, before we will ask everyone to find a table get organized as a team. The first thing you'll have to do is to come up with a team name. Cleverness is encouraged. We'll plan for three rounds of ten questions, which will be asked by our Quiz Master, Kevin Henkes. We'll tally the answers throughout and announce the top five teams at the end of each round. In the event of a tie, there will be a lightning round at the very end.

*6) Do I have to know a lot about children's books?* Well, it'll help, but remember, you will be part of a team, so if you don't know something, chances are someone else on your team will. However the CCBC librarians have come up with some very tough questions, so bring your A game.

*7) Will there be food?* Yes, there will be light snacks (inspired by the books of Kevin Henkes), cake, and a cash bar with some very special custom drinks created for the occasion.

*8) Is there parking?* Yes, there is parking behind Hotel Red. The hotel itself is located at 1501 Monroe Street, near Camp Randall. http://www.hotelred.com/
*
**9) What should I wear?* *Is this a formal event?* It's not a formal event but you can dress up if you want to. Or not. It's Madison! (But it's a competition, so remember to wear your fighting pants.)

*10) What are we competing for?* The winning team will get bragging rights and will gain possession of a traveling trophy (Babe, The Blue Ox,) for one year. Each team member will also receive a very special individual prize.
*
**11) This sounds like so much fun, but I can't come! Will there be another chance?* Yes, the Friends are making this an annual event, so watch for an announcement of the Second Annual CCBC Bowl some time next fall.

*12) I don't want to compete, but can I just come watch? * No. Space is limited and at this point, it doesn't look like we will have room for anyone to sit on the sidelines. But come and join a team!

Any other questions? Just ask KT! And we hope to see you next Friday!
