Re: Scary in the Elementary School

I haven't yet read all the posts on this topic, so I apologize if the three books I will list have been already mentioned.

We all tend to agree that students want scary but not too scary. My favorites for the younger crowd are: *A Beasty Story* (Bill Martin, Jr, ill by Stephen Kellogg) (1st grade), *Creepy Carrots* (Aaron Reynolds, ill by Peter Brown) (2nd grade), and *The Perfect Pumpkin Pie* (Denys Cazet) (3rd grade). The books aren't really scary, it's all in the way one reads them. Today the third grade class laughed as they read parts of The Perfect Pumpkin Pie with me. You better believe the three books will be checked out quite often from now on.
