Deb Ellis, contiued

I want to add to KT's announcement (below) that Malala Yousafzai cited Deborah Ellis as one of her favorite contemporary writers in an interview (NYT Book Review, 9/24/14). When Malala was asked if there's one book she wished all girls or students would read, she responded recommended "The Breadwinner" by Deborah Ellis.  Deb thinks that Malala's teacher (possibly in Birmingham, England, where Malala now lives) might have introduced Malala to "The Breadwinner." In this interview Malala refers to other children's books and books for adults, as well.

In 2004, "The Breadwinner Trilogy" was awarded a Special Commendation by the Jane Addams Children's Book Award jury that year.

If you haven't read "I Am Malala" yet, I encourage you to do so. In addition, the recently published Young Readers Edition is absolutely wonderful. "I Am Malala" is the 2014-15 "Go Big Read" (common book) in the UW-Madison campus and wider communities.

Peace,
Ginny

Before we begin the next topic on CCBC-Net, I wanted to announce a great opportunity for people to talk directly to Deborah Ellis, author of The Breadwinner, on Sept 19.  I've attached a flyer with more information.  Please feel free to spread the word.
