nonfiction to the rescue

While we debate representation in fiction, nonfiction rides to the rescue. Please Google Dr. Mizrakhani, the first woman to win the Fields Medal -- the Nobel Prize of Mathematics. At the Simonsfoundation you will find a video in which she discusses her childhood in Iran, her love of books and reading, and her hope that girls will be encouraged by her example to pursue their interests in math.

Seems to me her example is a perfect "counter" to limited images of life, girls, education in Iran -- though she is now at Stanford.
