Wonderful post Charles, I was going to make similar points about the many, many, many varieties of Islam and the error of conflating this global heterogeneous faith with the Middle East. Indeed we might make a very broad division between books about Islam and the lives, beliefs, experiences of Muslims around the world and books centering on the experiences of Muslims -- of all varieties -- in America. In the later category I can't help mentioning my wife, Marina Budhos, and her book *Ask Me No Questions* -- about the impact of the Patriot Act on one Bangladeshi family in New York. Marina will post on her own about her follow up book, which deals with another challenge some Muslims face in the era of suspicion and surveillance.
