An adult book that will have appeal to teens is Michael Muhammad Knight’s, The Taqwacores. Set in a Muslim punk house in Buffalo, this book features Sufis, Sunnis, Shi’as, and more trying to figure out the place their faith has in a world that also has sex, drugs, and punk music. This book was originally self published (photocopied and spiral bound). The title refers to taqwa, an Arabic term for divine consciousness. This book has been called the Catcher in the Rye for young Muslims. It does do a decent job of sharing that universal struggle between religion and popular culture while explaining many of the religious practices of Muslims. Well worth finding and reading. There is also an audio version available and a poorly reviewed low budget movie. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/23/us/23muslim.html
