I meant to say this yesterday. At NCTE this fall, I am also going to be on a panel in support of the #WeNeedDiverseBooks movement. Please stop by if you are at the conference and lend your thoughts. As it happens, tomorrow evening at 5 PM, I’ll be joining authors Linda Sue Park, Sharon Flake, Lamar Giles, Suzanne Morgan, and (agent) Adriana Dominguez at SCBWI in Los Angeles to discuss the state of affairs in terms of diversity in children’s and YA lit. Our discussion will focus on the situation from authors’ points of view.
I know what you’re thinking: This sometimes feels like an endless conversation, especially for those of you at the University of Wisconsin. Still, I am feeling hopeful that we can continue to apply pressure to promote and publish high quality literature that includes the experiences of people from a broad range of backgrounds.
