I love this book (full disclosure: I was on the Morris committee last year, so that's probably unsurprising).

I had one student want to read the book as soon as she saw the title, though she was disappointed that the science of the title was more metaphorical than she expected. Other students have liked it, though I'm sad to say they aren't as DFJLAKD*&^&(*SFJLDSAKFJ#O_at_I%U)_at_#%&DS (amazing! no words! etc) as I expected. I think there are plenty of readers who should react like that, but either they're not expressing that reaction to me or I haven't found the right teen to hand it to yet.

One thing I have enjoyed doing is handing it to students alongside Justine Larbalestier's *Liar*, just to see how they react when they see the two very different places a story can go.

I agree, Merri, that it is quite hopeful even in the face of such horror. Stephanie is a talented writer.
