Thanks, everyone, for sharing such beautiful descriptions and impactful memories about Walter.
My favorite memory is a series of movies I was fortunate enough to make with him.
I am honoured to shared these with you if you wish to view them.

Background: Do you know Sharon Creech's spectacular book LOVE THAT DOG, published by HarperCollins? In it Walter Dean Myers is a character -- the author whom a fictional boy Jack really really really wants to invite to school for an author visit.
In November 2005, I had the privilege of working with HarperCollins, Sharon Creech, Avi, Sarah Weeks, and Walter Dean Myers as they embarked upon performing reader's theater. They each scripted two of their own books, and the four of them went to Becky Anderson's masterful bookstore Anderson's in Naperville, Illinois, and performed their works for the first time.
I filmed this -- and want to share these movies with you if you wish.

Scroll through the movies. The first is a documentary with all of them (and others) talking about the educational value of reader's theater.
Additional Movie 3 is LOVE THAT DOG. It is 14 minutes, but you'll see everyone beaming as Walter plays Walter Dean Myers. You'll see tears, and joy. And hear the laughter of the packed auditorium.
Additional Movie #4 is Bad Boy….
You may freely view all of these movies -- and don't have to have a subscription to TeachingBooks if you use the link I provided above ( http://teachingbooks.net/readerstheater )
My very best to everyone as we grief and remember and cherish in our own ways.
Love, Nick
