One of the many things I love about this book is how it humorously yet accurately depicts the web of relationships within the natural world. Both in the classroom and in our daily consumption of media, we tend to categorize organisms and study them individually, rather than enmeshed in their very complex systems. This book rides the crest of current ecosystem research by stressing how each living thing depends on all the living (and inorganic) things that surround it. Kudos to Melissa that she can portray this interdependence for very young children--the ones who will eventually assume the responsibility for preserving biodiversity!
