Thanks for writing about your experience sharing "No Monkeys, No Chocolate" with children, Crystal. I find it fascinating---and wonderful---that they wouldn't let you skip the longer, informative text.
I agree that this is a great example of engaging informational book for younger readers and listeners.It's one we here at the CCBC couldn't share enough with teachers and librarians this past year. It's the kind of book I think an inspired classroom teacher could easily build an entire unit---or even semester--around. There is so much science information packed into it, offering a big-picture look at the interconnectedness within an ecosystem, while not skimpoing on details that could be launching points for individual lessons.
And, as Crystal made clear, it's also, simply, a terrific read-aloud. I'm always glad to hear when non-fiction for younger children is part of the read-aloud repertoire.
