I just published Biographies to Read Aloud with Kids with ALA Editions/Huron Street Press profiling 200 biographies that have that storytelling flair to the text. Half of the books are about women - wonderful stories, many not found in school textbooks. Rob Reid

I disagree with you about there being a lack of biographies about women. I served on Sibert a few years ago and I'm serving on Orbis Pictus now so I'm seeing just about everything coming from trade publishers, and there are a lot of biographies about women being published for all age ranges. Among other things, there's a good series of collective biographies focused on women being published by Chicago Review Press. I've reviewed several of those.

Has anyone else ever noticed how few biographies of women in children's and YA lit as compared to those of men? Would girls read them more if there were more to which they could relate?
