Since it is the beginning of the month, I wanted to send out an update.Last year, I went on an unconventional book tour whereby I workshoppedwith at-risk youth across America at no cost to their programs. Whiledoing this, we filmed the documentary currently in post production titledAt-Risk Summer. Click here for trailer and information: http://nevercountedout.com/how-to-help/support-the-film/ While I traveled America, I visited authors who shared their thoughts onbullying, belonging, writing for outsiders and more. Here are the authors I interviewed: Laurie Halse Anderson, Kathy Erskine, Meg Medina, A. S. King, Ellen Hopkins,Matt de la Peņa, Lyn Miller-Lachmann, Andrew Smith, Nandi Sojourner, C.G. Watson,Ned Vizzini, Pat Zieltow-Miller, Cecil Castellucci What started with one small book has sparked a creative revolution. Thetour and its impact has been featured on MT, Huff Post, School Library Journal, Publishers Weekly and Kirkus Reviews. Fat Angie is the winner of the Stonewall Award 2014 and is a Lambda Finalist in an adult category with Wally Lamb and Jeanette Winterson. So it has been some year. An amazing year of empowering young people on the fringe. Of realizing that showing up has currency. And this project has been grassroots from the beginning.
