Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. As a #WeNeedDiverseBooks team member, I can't COUNT the number of submissions we've had from teens and adults expressing something along the lines of "WeNeedDiverseBooks because the T in LGBT is almost nonexistent or stereotypical."
To the whole listserv -
As a reminder for those at BEA/BookCon, the #WeNeedDiverseBooks panel
(which I am moderating) is TODAY at 10am in room 1E02. In a sign that diverse authors are still "in the back of the bus", we are not listed in the official BEA program, partly because we were a late addition, and partly because of oversight. Which means that thousands of people had little or no idea that Grace Lin, Jacqueline Woodson and Matt de la Pena were even going to be here. It's disheartening, but I truly hope that we can show everyone that PEOPLE CARE about diverse books.
The CCBC is going to be quoted heavily. We have some incredibly exciting news to share with you all. And thank you all for your support and Tweets.
