In my experience in and out of public libraries, working with children, young adults, and parents, I am continually amazed and consistently pleased at the openness and curiosity with which most people approach challenging, or non-traditional, topics and books. Beyond Magenta as well as the books from earlier this month (Jacob's Dress and Morris Micklewaite and the Tangerine Dress) address gender fluidity and the transgender experience in thoughtful, engaging ways. I think, as a librarian committed to intellectual freedom, I would definitely include these books in library collections in the communities where I've worked.
