Last chance to buy tickets for the two children's book events at the PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature in NYC this weekend!
On Saturday, May 3, at 3:00 p.m., How To Write a (Super) Hero, featuring Sarwat Chadda and C.J. Farley in conversation at Subculture, 45 Bleecker Street. In this event geared towards readers aged 10 and up, celebrated writer and game designer Sarwat Chadda joins forces with young adult writer Christopher Farley to discuss the creation of alternate universes, the power of mythology, and what makes a successful hero's quest. Bring your children, niece or nephew, but be prepared to sit at the edge of your seat, too! http://worldvoices.pen.org/event/2014/03/14/how-write-super-hero
And on Sunday, May 4, at 12:30 p.m., Sex and Violence in Children's Books: Where the Wild Things (really) Are, a panel discussion with Sarwat Chadda, Robie Harris, Susan Kuklin and Niki Walker, moderated by Sharyn November. Cooper Union's Frederick P. Rose Auditorium, 41 Cooper Sq. (3rd Ave. at 6th St.)
From the Brothers Grimm to The Hunger Games and Judy Blume, sex and violence have long played important roles in children's literature. Should there be limits, and if so, who decides? A panel of distinguished authors discuss self-censorship, editorial feedback, public relations, and other touchy subjects http://worldvoices.pen.org/event/2014/03/14/sex-and-violence-childrens-books-where-wild-things-really-are
Hope to see you there, Susanna
