My very favorite poet for children and adults is Valerie Worth, especially All the Small Poems and Fourteen More (with pictures by Natalie Babbitt)
Here is a favorite:
library
No need even
to take out
A book: only
Go inside
And savor
The heady
Dry breath of
Ink and paper,
Or stand and
Listen to the
Silent twitter
Of a billion
Tiny busy
Black words.
Also- Hailstones and Halibut Bones by Mary O' Neil- Poems that describe the essence of colors so well that this book was used to describe color to the blind.

Crystal - your list matches up with what I saw over my twenty-five year career as an elementary school teacher. In fact, I wrote about that very thing today on

.
<http://www.readerkidz.com/2014/04/06/firefly-july-and-a-poem-for-every-seas on/> Kids easily discover Where the Sidewalk Ends and other similar books of verse. That's why it's so important for teachers, parents, and librarians to introduce kids to all the other poetry goodness that's being published.
<http://www.readerkidz.com/2014/04/06/firefly-july-and-a-poem-for-every-seas on/> We know it's a tough market, and as Lee Bennett Hopkins mentioned several days ago, anthologies for children aren't being published as readily as they once were and new children's poets don't have the same opportunities they once had to introduce their work. Still, those of us who can, need to help kids discover other poets and the few new poetry collections/anthologies that are out there. Here's a link to my post about several of those: http://www.readerkidz.com/2014/04/06/firefly-july-and-a-poem-for-every-seaso n/
