Wow--what a performance! Those kids are geniuses. Thanks, Marc, for that link.
Christine: I wonder if a "back door approach" to publication for your gifted teen poets would be to put YouTube videos of a few of their original poems on FB?
Debbie Reese (re)posted something yesterday on FB that is another great example of poetry on video--hence an easy way for teachers to celebrate the month--and a must-share with teens (or college students): http://blogs.mprnews.org/state-of-the-arts/2013/03/poet-heid-erdrich-finds-herself-pre-occupied/
And for K-5 students, please see the one-minute science-themed "poem movies" that Sylvia Vardell's graduate students made (which Sylvia is posting daily on her blog). Here are a few of my favorites:
--a bilingual Spanish reading of Margarita Engle's poems "Discovery" and "Descubrimiento": http://poetryforchildren.blogspot.com/2014/04/pfas-discoverydescubrimiento-by.html
--a fun poem movie for K-2 about the "old water" aspect of the water cycle: http://poetryforchildren.blogspot.com/2014/04/pfas-old-water-by-april-halprin-wayland.html
--a poem highlighting scientific processes (ideal for 5th grade): http://poetryforchildren.blogspot.com/2014/04/pfas-scientific-inquiry-by-susan.html
All best, Janet janet_at_janetwong.com

> The world lively, political, poetry written and performed by teenagers is alive and well. This is one such performance from a recent event in Chicago, and starkly critical of the city's mayor. Anyone who think that poetry is fading, or that teenagers are apathetic, will see something very different here. Poetry, performance, and current issues are a wonderful avenue for teenagers that we should all support.
